President Johnson was reported here today as watching closely the Israel-Syrian developments following Friday’s clash which, according to information received here, lasted for more than seven hours. White House press spokesman George E. Christian said: “The President is always concerned over these confrontations. We always watch developments such as this as closely as we can.”
State Department sources said they expected the United States to urge a meeting of the United Nations Israel-Syrian Mixed Armistice Commission, and to ask both sides to cooperate with the peace-keeping organization.
