Rabbi Emanuel Rackman, spiritual leader of Congregation Shaarey Tefila, Far Rockaway, and assistant to the president of Yeshiva University, has been elected to the pulpit of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue. He will succeed Dr. Immanuel Jakobovits, newly-elected Chief Rabbi of the British Commonwealth. Rabbi Rackman will continue in his post at Yeshiva, which he has held since 1962.
Born in Albany, N. Y., 56 years ago, Dr. Rackman has served in his present pulpit for the past 20 years. He is a former president of the Rabbinical Council of America and of the New York Board of Rabbis. A former vice-president of the Religious Zionists of America, Rabbi Rackman is a member of the Jewish Agency executive, American section, and serves on the board of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
