In replying to the address made by Dr. Hans Luther, German Ambassador, in Mount Vernon last week, Dr. Solomon A. Fineberg of Sinai Temple, denounced the Ambassador’s statements as “a piece of vicious, false propaganda”.
“His statements regarding the Jews of Germany are so apparently self-contradictory that they are an insult to the intelligence of his American audience. Moreover those statements are so contradictory to established fact as to make one question whether the Hitler government has one shred of honor within its structure,” Dr. Fineberg declared.
“According to Dr. Luther, the government of Germany was so much in control of the Jews that 50 per cent of the government offices were occupied by Jews. And yet he asks us to believe that a minority consisting of one per cent of the population, able to control the government to such an amazing extent, would be plotting to destroy that very government in favor of Communism. Could anything be more preposterous? To cry out in one breath that the Jews had everything their own way, that they were the successful capitalists of Germany, and at the same time they were the Communists! It is apparent absurdity.
“The Hitler defense,” said Dr. Fineberg, “as presented by the Ambassador, does not withstand even a superficial examination. The facts are too apparent. Jews are being destroyed in Germany for the same
