The first regional conference to be called under the auspices of the United Synagogue of America, “Committee of One Thousand” to stimulate religious activity, will take place in this city all day Sunday, October 19th, according to an announcement made by A. B. Cohen, national chairman. Similar conferences are planned by Mr. Cohen to take place in various sections of the country in the course of the next few months.
The purpose of this conference will be to effect an amalgamation of the Philadelphia branch of the United Synagogue of America with the regional branch, so that more intensive religious work might be done throughout the region. Geographically the new organization will include all of Eastern Pennsylvania, comprising upwards of twenty-five communities with a Jewish population of 300,000.
At this Conference, special consideration will be given to the religious needs of the Jewish students attending the universities and the colleges in this part of the country. The work being done at the Jewish Students House on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania will be discussed and recommendations made for a similar house to be established on the campus of Temple University in Philadelphia, as well as provision for the religious needs of the Jewish students at the Colleges located in Eastern Pennsylvania.
