The Interior Ministry has prepared nine administrative orders setting regional councils in the administered territories. Interior Minister Dr. Yosef Burg said yesterday. The Military Governor will have to sign the orders. The new councils will incorporate new Jewish settlements in Israel proper, with the idea of providing the new settlements with better services.
The new councils will be under the formal responsibility of the Military Governor, but he will delegate authority to the civil regional officers. The councils will bring under one municipal framework settlements such as the Gush Etzion settlements and the settlements in the Jerusalem corridor, or the new Golan settlements with the old settlements in the Upper Galilee. This plan is expected to be carried out within the next few months.
