The German Reichstag was dissolved last night and new elections ordered for March 5th by Adolf Hitler, Germany’s new Chancellor.
The decree of dissolution was signed by President Paul Von Hindenburg at the joint request of Hitler and his vice-Chancellor, Franz von Papen.
The action was decided upon after the Nazis failed to secure the promise of co-operation in Parliament from the Centre Party, without whose assistance, it is impossible for the Nazis to have a working majority in Parliament.
A series of questions were presented to the Nazi chieftain by the Centrists, the answer to which impelled the Centrists to refuse to join Hitler’s cabinet.
No direct reference to the Jews and their rights is contained in the questions, but the Centre Party makes a primary matter the guarantees that the Nazis are prepared to give that their acts will keep within constitutional limits.
