Canadian cells of the Nazi party are multiplying rapidly and Hitlerite adherents, who now are numbered in the hundreds, present an aggressive appearance among the 500,000 persons of German origin living in the Dominion, the Anglo-Jewish weekly, The Standard, published here, revealed.
According to the revelations, the Nazi organization in Canada is patterned after the Nazi party in Germany. Canada is divided into zones, with the headquarters of the eastern division, comprising Quebec and the Maritime provinces, in Montreal.
National headquarters of the Canadian Nazi group is situated in Waterloo, Ontario, where the largest German group in the Dominion is located.
The “Fuehrer” or leader of the Eastern Division is L. Phau of Montreal. While the group has no permanent headquarters, as far as could be learned, local Nazi groups meet regularly in private homes and clubs in various parts of the city.
Canadian Nazis were reorganized recently as a separate organization known as “The German League,” which is under the wing of Ernst Wilhelm Bohle, head of the German Nazi party foreign organization.
Bohle’s instructions are sent to Waterloo and then conveyed to divisional headquarters, which in turn relays them to individual cells.
The older German families in Montreal bitterly opposed the Nazi League at first, but their efforts to discourage the group met with scant success. The majority of the Nazis here include recent arrivals from Germany and minor officials and employees of German firms doing business here.
