The court of appeals here has overruled the lower court which on August 9 sentenced Moses Katz, a Jewish baker, to four years imprisonment for the slaying of Jan Grotkowski, a Polish student, in a street brawl last November, and resentenced the prisoner to six years imprisonment.

The case had been appealed by both prosecution and defense, the former contending the sentence too light because the crime had been premeditated, while the defense, asserting Katz’s innocence, sought to prove that two unknown men attacked and stabbed Grotkowski.

The death of Grotkowski last November led to a series of strong anti-Semitic disturbances. Katz and two other Jews were arrested in connection with the crime. The others won their freedom at the trial.
