The return of the Jewish capital to Jerusalem is not only a historical necessity but also a "contemporary national necessity," Premier David Ben Gurion today told an annual meeting here of the Jerusalem Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Ben Gurion insisted that the Jews had every right to the city, not only on the basis of history and Biblical promise, but because Jewish arms had defended Jerusalem during the recent war. He added that the city’s problems were economic and strategic as well as political.
