The monthly meeting of the Jewish Board of Deputies broke up unexpectedly yesterday when Lord Rothschild resigned and Mr. Henriques, who presided, left the chair and withdrew from the meeting. The incident arose over the question of the acceptance of a motion to appoint a paid secretary for the press committee. The proposal was opposed by the Press Committee itself which asked that the decision be postponed until the Board’s special committee investigating the Press Committee’s activities had time to report. The motion having nevertheless been accepted, Lord Rotschild informed the meeting of his resignation from the Board.
Mr. Henriques than proposed that the meeting be adjourned, while a number of members insisted on proceeding. It was then Mr. Henriques left the chair and the meeting broke up.
