New York University announced today that the Samuel Rubin Foundation has donated $1,000,000 as the first contribution to a $100,000,000 development drive just opened by the institution. The head of the foundation, Samuel Rubin, is a well-known Jewish philanthropist, who, until recently, was president of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.
In announcing the gift, Dr. James M. Hester, president of the university, said the contribution will be applied toward the cost of the Grosvenor Hotel which the university recently purchased and is converting into a residence facility for 600 foreign and American students.
“Because of Mr. Rubin’s long and dedicated interest in the welfare of students throughout the world,” Dr. Hester said, “the building will be named the Samuel Rubin International Residence Hall of New York University. This extraordinary act of generosity, in addition to his many previous benefactions on behalf of cultural and educational enterprises, will thus receive permanent and fitting recognition.”
