The ruins of an ancient Jewish town dating back to the Third Century, C. E, has been discovered on the slopes of the Meron Hills near Safad. The discovery was made accidentally by a Public Works Department tractor driver who was engaged in the construction of a new road.
Experts of the Government Department of Antiquities immediately ordered the suspension of work and began to investigate the ruins. The experts found some Hebrew inscriptions and pottery dating to the period of Simon Bar Yochai, who lived in the Third Century of the Christian Era.
