An order amounting to a Government ban on the sale of shoes to Jews has been issued in Rumania, it is reported in the Bucharest newspaper Argus reaching here today.
The paper states that the authorities in charge of rationing commodities have received an order from central headquarters instructing them not to issue any ration coupons for shoes to Jews until it has been established that the non-Jewish population is well provided with footwear.
The pro-Nazi paper “Porunca Vremii,” organ of the anti-Semitic Iron Guard party, carries an article on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the death of the notorious anti-Semite. Professor Octavian Goga, who was the head of the Rumanian Government in 1938 for forty-four days. “Though only in power for six weeks, he accomplished more than others who were in power for years because he suspended the pro-Jewish newspapers and brought about anti-Jewish legislation,” the article says.
