The 70th birthday of Ernest Bloch, renowned Jewish composer, was celebrated here during the week-end by the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, of which he was director 25 years ago. Mr. Bloch, through a bequest from Mrs. Sigmund Stern, now lives in Oregon where he composes his music.
The Swiss-born composer wrote an entire new series of Jewish music, including the “Baal Shem” themes on Chassidic life, the “Jewish Poems,” the “Israel” symphony and Psalms set to music.
