The Salzburg Diet, a provincial legislature, has unanimously adopted a motion by the Nazi majority prohibiting schechita. The motion was supported by the Christian Socialists and the Social Democrats.

Similar prohibitions adopted by the Salzburg Provincial Diet had previously been modified by the Federal Government in Vienna which had qualified the ordinance by permitting two Jewish butchers to sell Kosher meat, as the Salzburg community had protested that the ordinance was a violation of the constitution which guaranteed religious equality to all.

It is now a question whether the Federal Government will allow or modify this new prohibition.
