An archaeological discovery of great interest has been made here with the accidental unearthing of what is believed to be the “Third Wall” surrounding ancient Jerusalem.
Workers digging a foundation for a new house on Prophet Street, in the center of the city, near the Russian Compound, discovered the remains of an ancient tower overlooking the Mediterranean which is believed to be a section of the “Third Wall” described by ancient historians as “one of the prettiest and most adorned towers of Jerusalem.” Also discovered was an important mosaic dating from the pre-Christian era.
