The trade commission of the Polish Sejm adopted with the customary government majority the first, second and third readings of the new economic law. The proposed law would institute a system of qualifications for merchants, artisans and men engaged in industry. The Minister of Economics, under the terms of the law would decide on the qualifications necessary.
The Club of the Jewish Deputies of the Sejm issued a statement warning that the proposed law as it stands is a menace to Jews in business and industry.
However, the government permitted two amendments to the bill as it stands. One postpones enforcement of the law for three years. The second provides that existing enterprises be unaffected by the terms of the law.
A noteworthy fact was the opposition of the Endek, National Democrat anti-government, anti-Jewish political group, to the law proposed by the government.
Authorities of the city of Lwow refused to permit a mass meeting of protest against the proposed law arranged by the Zionist organization of the city.
