Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) called the Vatican’s embassy in Washington to express concern about Pope Benedict XVI’s omission of Israel from a list of countries victimized by terrorism. On Aug. 3, Santorum called Apostolic Nuncio Gabriel Montalvo, the pope’s ambassador to Washington, and told him he was hearing concerns from the Jewish community and had his own concerns about the pope’s recent comments, said Barbara Ledeen, a spokeswoman for Santorum.
