The Hebrew letters on the signboard of the Israel reparations purchasing mission in Cologne have twice been defaced by unknown persons, the Christian Science Monitor reported today from Hamburg. Similarly, some members of the Israel mission were refused the lease of some flats, after the owners learned the lessees’ nationality.
On the other hand, the correspondent reported instances of a new trend among German youth toward friendship to Jews. He cited as example the case of a 20- year old talented student of the Technological Institute of Goettingen, who offered the Israel reparations mission his “inventions to atone for the sins” of his parents, once active Nazis.
