Sir Alfred T. Davies, noted British educator and permanent secretary of the Welsh Department of the Board of Education since 1907, arrived in New York on Tuesday on the steamer Aurania.
Sir Alfred, who is known as a friend of the Palestine reconstruction movement, will address meetings in this country in behalf of the United Palestine Appeal.
Sir Alfred is the author of a number of works on education and the Welsh language.
Recently Sir Alfred visited Palestine, as a result of which he expressed his enthusiasm for the Jewish reconstruction work, especially praising the Chalutzim.
On his arrival Sir Alfred was met at the steamer by Zionist leaders.

Additional suits by Russian policyholders against American life insurance companies were begun Tuesday in the Supreme Court when the Russian Policyholders, Inc.. brought eight actions on assigned claims of 974 persons aggregating $1,214,479.
Four of these suits, totals of which aggregate $376,014. are against the Equitable Life Insurance Society and the remainder are against the New York Life Insurance Company. They were filed by Charles Recht. Mr. Recht said other suits will be brought soon for amounts aggregating $10,000,000 against American insurance interests.
The claims are similar to those in actions pending in Federal Courts. Counsel for the companies have argued policies issued to residents of Russia were rendered void when the Soviet Government confiscated the property of the insurance companies in Russia.
The charge that Samuel Untermyer is “a man of Bolshevist leanings” was made yesterday at a meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bethlehem Steel Corporation, by Richard A. Jones, stockholder and retired business man of New York, when the election of members to the Board took place. Mr. Jones objected to the reelection to the Board of Alvin Untermyer, Samuel Untermyer’s son, for the reason stated.
Eugene G. Grace, president of the company, answered Jones, saying Untermyer was a substantial stockholder, as was his father, and that he had served on the board three years and was a constructive director whose opinions were valued.
A testimonial performance in honor of Ossip Dymow, noted Yiddish playright, on his twenty-fifth anniversary as an author, will be given at the Mansfield Theatre on Sunday evening. April 24th.
