Sir James Parr Praises Zionist Work in Palestine

Sir James Parr, High Commissioner for New Zealand, who recently returned from Palestine, expressed his admiration for the Zionist works in Palestine in a letter to the Zionist Organization.

“I am interested in the work of the Zionist Organization in Palestine, and it was a welcome opportunity to see what was being done” Sir James Parr wrote. “I think the organization is doing good work. I was particularly interested in the thorougly scientific manner in which farm instruction and organization is being carried on, and further observed with pleasure, the keen interest of the young Hebrew men. from all parts of Europe, to become farmers. The operations of this training farm seem to be quite comparable with the work done in similar institutions in New Zealand and Australia.

“I was especially struck with the Training School for Jewish Girls which you have at Nahalal. It was a most interesting sight to observe 60 Jewish girls brought, at about the age of 17, from Russia and other European countries to Palestine and there being instructed in domestic sciei. 2 and in farm work, so that they might become useful helpmates to the Jewish young men of the Settlement, who will be their future husbands.

“I believe that the Zionist settlers in Palestine may yet prove to be the true interpreters in many things between the East and the West-to be, so to speak, the liaison or bond between the great Eastern and Western Communities of the World.”
