The services were part of a nationwide observances honoring Monash, who was the first commander of Australian forces in France.

In a tribute to Sir John at the gathering attended by Jewish members of parliament and representatives of the Government and the Army, Rabbi Ronald Lubovsky lauded Monash’s achievements as a lawyer, engineer and soldier.
