Sir Herbert Dowbiggin, Inspector-General of Police in Ceylon, who was sent out to Palestine after the riots of August 1929 to reorganise the Palestine Police Force and was given a knighthood in the New Year’s Honours List, will succeed Colonel Mavrogordato, the Chief of the Palestine Police, it is persistently rumoured here. Colonel Mavrogordate left the country on Friday and is not expected to return to his post.
