Some U.S. Jewish groups launched an effort to prevent a bill that they say would result in religious discrimination in federally funded programs for preschool children. The groups oppose a legislative amendment being considered in the U.S. House of Representatives this week that would repeal protections that have existed since 1972, prohibiting Head Start centers from discriminating in hiring based on religion.
