The refusal of the Johannesburg Town Council to allow the League of Gentiles to use the City Hall for their propaganda, formed the subject of a case in court.
The propaganda meeting was thinly disguised as a concert. A miner named Lippiatt, frequently out of work, stated that he was chairman of the League’s concert committee and pleaded guilty to a charge of theft from the League of a sum of £18, being deposit on the hall. He was found guilty and given a suspended sentence of three months’ hard labor.
