The Soviet Union has temporarily suspended the emigration of Russian Jews to Israel, due to the Middle East crisis, it was reported here today from Moscow. The report said that some 40 Jews who already had exit visas were not permitted to leave the country. So far, there has been no official Soviet comment on the matter.
The staff at the Israel Embassy in Moscow, meanwhile began leaving the Soviet capital today, following the break in diplomatic relations between the two countries. Ten Israeli diplomats and their families left this morning by air for Tel Aviv.
(No date has been set for the departure of the members of the Soviet Embassy staff from Israel, but the Soviet ship “Felix Dzerdzinski” arrived from Odessa this weekend to Haifa, to evacuate 70 persons from the Soviet Embassy. The crew of the Soviet ship included five Jews and several women marines.)
