A tumultous welcome by relatives and officials of the Jewish United Fund of Metropolitan Chicago greeted the arrival at O’Hare Airport of the first Soviet Jewish family to emigrate to Chicago since 1967. Alexander Grunfeld, 65, his wife, Gani, and their 22-year-old son, Aaron, had been trying for four years to come to Chicago from the Soviet Union to be united with their family. At the airport, the Grunfeld’s had an emotional reunion with their family including Grunfeld’s older sister and brother whom he had not seen in 42 years, and Grunfeld’s married godson, whom he had not seen since infancy.
