The suicide rate in Denmark in 1943 was the highest in 20 years as a result of the persecution of Jews which began when the Nazis assumed full control of the country in October of last year, the Dagens Nyheter reports. The Danish press, in reporting that suicides totalled 840, pointed that usually most occur in the Spring, while in 1943 they were the highest in October and November. The papers were not allowed, however, to point out that the persecution of Jews started in October.
