A rift appeared yesterday in the cloud-leadened sky of the kosher butcher situation, when Washington took official cognizance of the difficulties belaboring the Jewish meat store proprietors and summoned them to a July 2 conference in the capital, called for the purpose of framing a fair competition code.
Despite the fact that virtually all independent proprietors of kosher shops in Greater New York are members of the Federation formed to protect their interests and to keep their inter-relationships on an amiable plane they have been hard-hit recently by the ravages of cut-throat competition.
BITTER RIVALRY REPORTED
Bitter rivalry among merchants in the same neighborhoods, who have resorted to giving out premiums along with the meats purchased by customers has been partly responsible for the present difficulties, which during the past two weeks have threatened to eventuate in a shut-down of all kosher shops in the city.
