The Swiss Supreme Court authorized the extradition to West Germany of Erhard Kroger, a former Nazi SS officer who is charged with the mass murder of Jews and others in Russia during the Second World War.
Kroger, who was arrested last December in Zurich, is accused of being responsible for the mass murder in 1941 behind the German lines in the Soviet Union of 2, 245 Jewish men, women and children as well as of 800 inmates of a mental hospital. He had opposed extradition by contending that the crimes with which he was charged were political rather than criminal.
