The Council of Jewish Federations donated $60,000 from a private foundation to the Dominican Republic for disaster relief in the wake of Hurricane Georges. The Caribbean nation sustained damages initially estimated at $2 billion in the storm, which the American Red Cross designated as the largest disaster in more than a century. CJF, a partner in the newly formed UJA Federations of North America, is planning to give additional funds from the Weinberg Foundation and from a separate appeal to help other areas hit by the September hurricane.
