The Israel Defense Force is considering calling up reserve soldiers who serve in noncombat units to handle certain duties in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, such as guarding Jewish settlements. The move is aimed at relieving the burden that has fallen on combat reservists since the outbreak of the Palestinian uprising.
