To the Editor, Jewish Daily Bulletin:
R. H. Macy & Co., through one of its vice-presidents, Mr. Marks, commenting recently in the public press on a shipment of merchandise arriving on June 14 on the S. S. Manhattan from Hamburg, Germany, pointed out that the merchandise was from Czechoslovakia and the ship was an American ship and referred to the anti-Nazi Minute Men as being an irresponsible organization.
The Minute Men would like to point out that they did not refer to this particular merchandise as being Nazi merchandise nor did they state that the Manhattan was not an American ship. The Minute Men simply referred to the merchandise as arriving from Germany. This was the truth.
However, since Mr. Marks seemed to stress the point that the ship was an American ship, may we ask him to explain a shipment consigned to Macy’s consisting of thirteen cases of sweets arriving from Bremen on the S. S. Deutschland on July 7?
If we are doing Macy’s an injustice, we would like to correct it. Our quarrel is with Nazi Germany, not with fair-minded American business.
