The World Jewish Congress office here sent today a message to the Vatican Secretary of State saying: “Jews throughout the world are deeply moved by the passing of Pope John XXIII whose exalted ideals, courage, simple humanity and zealous endeavor gave so much hope of a new era of understanding, tolerance and harmony between all peoples and faiths. On behalf of the Jewish communities and organizations associated in the World Jewish Congress, we express our profound sadness and sympathy with the Roman Catholic Church in the grievous loss to all mankind of this noble man and universally beloved religious leader.”
Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie declared today, in a message to the Vatican Secretary of State, that the Jewish community of Britain “joins in the general grief and mourning at the passing of Pope John XXIII. Beloved of God and his fellow men, his life was distinguished by his humility, wisdom and compassion. He will be remembered for his work for peace and humanity.”
