A recruiting bureau for Jewish immigrants residing in Paris opened today and within a few hours 250 refugees had registered for national service. The office was established by the Federation of Associations of Jewish War Veterans and Volunteers in France. Hundreds of Jews have already registered in numerous other bureaus established by Jewish and non-Jewish organizations. It is safe to say that the number of volunteering non-French Jews–including refugees and citizens of Balkan states–runs into several thousands and would be higher if the ineligibles were included. There has been no pressure on refugees by the French authorities for enlistment.
