A Budapest court imposed death sentences yesterday on three Hungarians convicted of murdering 250 Jews during World War II. They were among 19 defendants charged with the murders which took place while they were leaders of the pro-Nazi Arrow Cross party.
Those sentenced to death were Vilmos Kroeszi, 56, Lajos Nemeth, 49, and Alajos Sander, 46. The 16 other defendants were sentenced to prison terms ranging from eight to 15 years.
(Former SS captain Paul Reiter, 65, was sentenced by a Munich court yesterday to life imprisonment for the wartime slaying of six Jews in Leiben, Austria. Rudolf Schleffarth, 55, a member of Reiter’s tank division, was sentenced to three years in prison for aiding in the murder of four other Jews. Heinz Neubert, 42, a third defendant, was acquitted.)
