Several Democrats addressing the House today praised President Truman’s prompt recognition of the republic of Israel and his stand in calling upon the U.N. to restore peace in Palestine. They also urged the lifting of the arms embargo as the next step.
The Congressmen who approved the Administration’s attitude were Abraham J. Halter and Arthur G. Klein of New York and john A. Blatnik of Minnesota. Similar sentiments were voiced in the Senate by Olin D. Johnston of South Carolina. However, Rep## Bassett, of Texas, charged the President with having “jeopardized world peace for ###### of 3,000,000 Jew in New York City.”
