Two ex-Nazis, accused of complicity in the murder of hundreds of Lithuanian Jews in 1941, were found guilty today by a court in Tubingen after a trial that lasted nine months, and were sentenced to prison terms.
Richard Wiechert, 56, was sentenced to a term of four-and-a-half years; while Bruno Schultz, 68, was given a prison term of three-and-a-half years. Both were found guilty of having been members of the notorious Tilsit Einsatzcommando, one of the units assigned by the Nazi regime to murder Jews before the concentration camp program got under way.
A former police officer suspected of having participated in the killing of Jews in the Ukraine, was arrested today in West Berlin. The suspect, Hans-Joachim Sommerfield, 46, is believed to have been a member of an SS group that killed 1, 224 Jews in the Ukraine.
