Two prominent members of Israel’s Labor Party switched their backing from legislator Haim Ramon to Haifa Mayor Amram Mitzna in the race for party leadership. Yossi Beilin and Tzali Reshef said that while they consider Ramon a qualified and deserving candidate, Labor must focus its efforts in preparing for the general elections and cannot risk having to hold a runoff if no one wins a clear majority in the Nov. 19 primary among Ramon, Mitzna and current party leader Benjamin Ben-Eliezer.
