The United Nations today made public its agenda for the next session of the General Assembly, convening September 19. Among more than 90 items to be placed before the 99 members of the UN, only two affect Israel-Arab relations directly. They are:
1. The Arab refugee situation, to be debated in the context of the annual report of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East; 2. The further status and operation of the United Nations Emergency Force, on guard against infiltration of Israeli territory or international waters on the borders of the Gaza Strip and on the shore of the Gulf of Akaba at Sharm-el-Sheikh, in the Sinai Peninsula.
A total of 1,151, 024 Arab refugees were registered as eligible for relief by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees, according to an announcement made here by the UN today. The announcement stated that the figure would be included in UNRWA’s forthcoming annual report to the General Assembly. This is an increase of 40,024 in the overall registration of the Arab refugees in the year ending June 30, 1961.
