The American-British agreement which preceded the designating of Great Britain as the mandatory power over Palestine has been invoked in the case brought by an American building owner against the Palestine administration.
The American contends that the recently enacted law limiting rents in Tel Aviv to a maximum of $12.50 a month per room is not applicable to his property, since the agreement in question stipulated that the United States would recognize Britain as the mandatory only on condition that the property of Americans in Palestine were not affected under the mandate.
The case is to come up in a Jaffa court within the month. The plaintiff will be represented by two attorneys who will attempt to prove the Tel Aviv rent ordinance a direct violation of the British American pact. The case is considered a test of whether or not Americans having investments in Palestine are subject to the laws of that country, and the American colony here is keenly anticipating its outcome.
