Negotiations between the U.S. Government and Israel are continuing over the State Department’s requests for concessions on repatriation of Arab refugees and territorial revisions, it was learned today.
Despite these continued talks, there seems to be no change in the attitude of the United States, informants stated. The viewpoint here is that the Americans continue to see Israel as responsible for the breakdown of the Lausanne conversations. In the diplomatic talks here, Israel is attempting to explain its stand, which is unchanged and is opposed to all concessions.
Armistice talks with Syria will be resumed tomorrow at the frontier village of Mahanayim. There appear to be possibilities of agreement after the friendly atmosphere of the last meeting. Agreement is expected on the proposals of Dr. Ralph J. Bunche, United Nations acting mediator on Palestine, but in an amended form.
