A New York delegation of the United American Jews of Transylvania appealed to the Rumanian Legation here today, to restore religious freedom to the Orthodox Jews of Transylvania, Rumania. A spokesman for the deputation said that it is estimated about 70,000 Jews still reside in Transylvania.
In a memorandum presented to the Rumanian Minister Selveu Burcam during a two-hour meeting, the delegation urged the Rumanian Government to restore the Sabbath holiday, permit Talmudic students to study abroad, allow the import of religious articles into the country, permit Transylvanian Jews to emigrate to countries of their choice, and reopen cultural communications between Transylvanian Jews and their coreligionists throughout the world.
