Further information about the American policy on the future of Jerusalem was receive here today by the British Government. The American view is presented as follows:
In the event Israel refuses to accept the so-called Garreau plan for placing limited sections of Jerusalem under international administration–a plan which the State Department believes is acceptable to the Vatican–the U.S. Government will support the U.N. Conciliation Commission plan for the future of Jerusalem. The latter plan provides for the creation of an international enclave and establishes separate Jewish and Arab municipalities in Jerusalem, but provides that neither Israel nor Transjordan shall have sovereignty over the city.
(In Washington, the State Department today declined to comment on the reported American policy plan with regard to Jerusalem. A State Department official told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that he was not prepared to either confirm or deny the London report.)
