U.S. Rep. Steven Schiff (R-N.M.) died Wednesday after a long battle with skin cancer. Schiff, 51, one of three Jewish Republican members of the House of Representatives, was first elected to Congress in 1989. The National Jewish Coalition, a Republican Jewish group, hailed him as “an important friend and leader in Congress.”
