The 1949 campaign of the United Campaign for Israel and overseas needs will reach 80 percent of the total raised in the 1948 drive, it was indicated here today by Simon Mirelman, chairman of the drive. Voicing satisfaction with the results of the current effort, Mr. Mirelman attributed the campaign’s success to the activities of the Buenos Aires and provincial committees.
The current campaign, in addition to raising funds for Israel, also included the Joint Distribution Committee, World Jewish Congress, HIAS, ORT and CSE. Mr. Mirelman said that a conference to plan the 1950 drive will be called in March, at which time the programs of the drive will be reviewed and new officers elected. With the exception of Buenos Aires, the United Campaign’s goals were reached in all Jewish communities in Argentina, it was noted.
