The biennial convention of the United Synagogue of American opened here today with more than 1,000 delegates, representing 400 Conservative congregations with a combined membership of over 420,000 throughout the United State, in attendance. Basic objectives of the parley, which will continue through Sunday are:
1. To consider plans for increasing the influence of Conservative religious philosophy on the American Jewish community; 2. To examine methods of strengthening enervative congregations as religious and educational centers; 3. To formulate the position of Conservative Jews to world problems, Palestine and the displaced Jews in Europe.
Samuel Rothstein, president of the United Synagogue, addressed the parley tonight on the organization’s achievements in the past two years. Rabbi Morris Adler, of Detroit, spoke on “New Goals for Conservative Judaism.”
