Jews of the world were urged today to “make unprecedented efforts to raise a minimum of £1,000,000 ($5,000,000) in 1939 in view of emergency needs in Palestine” as some 100 Zionist leaders from 30 countries closed a world conference of the Palestine Foundation Fund.

Resolutions adopted at the conclusion of the four-day meeting:

1– Praised the manner in which Palestine Jewry maintained its position as the vanguard of the Jews of the world, and declared the Jews of the world would be expected to follow Palestine’s example by replying generously to the appeal for funds;

2– Requested Jewish communities and congregations the world over to participate in the fund-raising drive;

3– Urged special steps to reach the wealthier Jewish classes as contributors of large sums, as well as the Jewish masses for intensified collections.

“The future of Zionism stands and falls with the attitude of American Jewry,” declared Dr. Kurt Blumenfeld, of Palestine, former president of the German Zionist Federation, in an address at this morning’s session. The success or failure of Zionism depends on the extent to which American Jews can be converted to the movement, he said.
