The Jewish National Council at its meeting tonight is expected to reject the White Paper and to decide not to cooperate with the British government in view of the failure of Premier MacDonald at last night’s Parliamentary debate on Palestine to make any statement that could be interpreted as a modification or explanation of the White Paper.
In both official and unofficial Jewish circles here great disappointment is being voiced at the Prime Minister’s statement. It had been expected that the Premier would say something that would result in a modification or at least an explaining away of some of the sore points in the White Paper.
The text of the Premier’s declaration as well as the speeches of the other statesmen in the House of Commons appeared this morning in extra editions of all the Hebrew dailies and of the Palestine Bulletin.
While none of the Arab leaders or papers have yet commented on the Parliamentary debate, the Falastin, fearing that despite the Prime Minister’s failure to say so in so many words that the British government is preparing to modify the White Paper under pressure of the Jewish protest, advocates a special meeting of the Arab Executive to notify the British government that the Arabs will not tolerate any modification of the White Paper.
