Shmuel Roden-sky, a veteran actor of the Israeli stage who said he preferred “Yiddish characters” to the great Shakespearean roles, died here Sunday night at the age of 85.
A winner of the coveted Israel Prize, Roden-sky continued to appear regularly until he suffered a heart attack a year ago.
A star of Habimah, the Israeli national theater, he was best known for his portrayal of Tevye, the milkman, in “Fiddler on the Roof.”
